“Made famous by the Early Dutch Settlers in Pennsylvania” is written on the title page. They were mostly farm folk who lived off the land. The farm women were known for their homemade luscious fruit pies, custards and rich, creamy desserts made from their animals on the farm. This led to the creation of the Pennsylvania Dutch style of cooking.
Dough balls such as dumplings and assorted homemade noodles were used in countless recipes such as Chicken Pot Pie which is one of the most popular comfort foods to eat today. Salads are often plain and simple ... usually salad greens, topped with slices of hard-boiled eggs and a bacon dressing. According to folklore, a well-laden feast should include a first course of "seven sweets and seven sours". A few restaurants in Pennsylvania Dutch country serve home-style meals and continue this tradition. You will learn more about these well loved Settlers as you read some of the history and cook these delicious recipes.
The book is in good vintage condition, the back board has some paper stuck to the board with a couple of small spots on the front. The title page has a doodle in the top right corner. The pages are in very nice condition with no tears.
Don’t pass up this gem to add to your vintage Dutch and Cook Book collection.
