I typically sell vintage sterling jewelry, but I know that in an election year, we have an extra opportunity to teach our children more than what they learn in most schools. I've watched several political documentaries with my elementary school aged children recently, and they become completely involved.
Having these sorts of vintage memorabilia around will most certainly provoke discussions that teach our children much more than I ever learned at their age.
This is a great set of political pins from 2 different Nixon campaigns. I'll start with the oldest
"I'm for Nixon Lodge: Richard Nixon and Henry Cabot Lodge were on the Republican ticket in 1960, running against Kennedy and Johnson. Kennedy won by a relatively small margin. The pin here is 0.9 inches in diameter and is marked on the edges with the Union Label and the Green Duck Co. of Chicago.
After the Kennedy assassination in 1963, Johnson became president, and was re-elected in 1964.
Nixon was first elected president in 1968, with Spiro Agnew as his running mate.
"NIXON AGNEW" This pin measures 1.4 inches in diameter and is marked on the edges with the Union Label, OFFICIAL NIXON BUTTON, FEELEY & WHEELER 370 LEXINGTON N.Y.C. 10017
Nixon was Nominated along with Agnew for a second (and scandalous) Term:
These buttons are most likely from the 1972 election: NIXON'S THE ONE! Measures 1.4 inches in diameter and is marked on the edges with the Union Label and ADCRAFT MFG CO CHICAGO 60608
NIXON jest jedynny: A Polish button that literally translates to The Sole is Nixon, or as in the button described above, Nixon's the one. This button measures 1.25 inches in diameter and is marked on the edges with WESTERN BADGE L.A. / ANAHEIM
The last one is a re-election button from 1972:
"President Nixon Now More than Ever" This pin is 1.4 inches in diameter and is marked on the edges with the Union Label and FIN. COMM. TO RE-ELECT THE PRES., PAUL BARRICK, TREAS., 1701 PENN AVE NW, WASH. D.C.
A set of 5 distinct pins. A great vintage and historical find!
